Description

Camphene is a white crystalline solid with a camphor-like scent, occurring in trace amounts in turpentine. It barely dissolves in water but mixes readily with common organic solvents, and turns up as a minor component in several essential oils, including turpentine, cypress, camphor, citronella, neroli, ginger and valerian oil.

It functions mainly as a feedstock for synthetic borneol, sandalwood-type fragrance compounds, synthetic camphor, synthetic perfume bases, IBOA and toxaphene-related perfume materials, along with other synthetic organics. Smaller quantities go into food flavouring, soap and deodorant scenting, and pesticide production.

FAQ

What is Camphene and what is it used for?

Camphene is a white crystalline solid with a camphor-like scent, occurring in trace amounts in turpentine, used mainly as a feedstock for synthetic borneol, sandalwood-type fragrance compounds and synthetic camphor.

What are the main industrial applications of Camphene?

It's used to make synthetic borneol, sandalwood fragrance materials, synthetic camphor, synthetic perfume bases, IBOA and toxaphene-related perfume materials, plus smaller volumes for food flavoring, soap/deodorant scenting and pesticide production.

How is Camphene produced from pine-derived materials?

It's derived from turpentine-related pine feedstocks and refined into food-like crystal form, supplied in 97% and 96% purity grades.

What is the difference between Camphene and Alpha Pinene?

Alpha-pinene is a liquid monoterpene hydrocarbon used mainly for terpineol/linalool synthesis, while camphene is a solid, crystalline monoterpene used chiefly as a route to synthetic borneol and camphor.

Which fragrance and chemical industries use Camphene?

Synthetic fragrance and pharmaceutical intermediate manufacturers, food flavoring producers, soap and deodorant formulators, and pesticide manufacturers.

What are the important physical and chemical properties of Camphene?

It's a feather-like white crystal, molecular formula C10H16, molecular weight 136.24, practically insoluble in water but soluble in common organic solvents, with a relative density of about 0.842.

What purity levels are commonly available for Camphene?

Commercial camphene is typically supplied in 97% and 96% grades, both specified by GC purity and pure-camphene content.

How should Camphene be stored and handled?

Store it in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from light and heat — it's a combustible material, so keep it away from sparks, open flames and incompatible substances in a dedicated safety cabinet.

Is Camphene used as an intermediate in chemical manufacturing?

Yes — it's a key intermediate for synthetic borneol, synthetic camphor and several other synthetic organic fragrance and pharmaceutical materials.

How can manufacturers choose a reliable Camphene supplier?

Look for consistent GC purity (97%/96%), confirmed pure-camphene content, and proper combustible-material storage and handling practices during supply.

Who supplies Camphene in bulk?

Himalaya Terpenes Pvt. Ltd. (Mumbai, India) supplies Camphene in bulk, in drums, bags, IBCs or ISO tanks depending on the grade, for domestic and export orders. The company is an ISO 9001:2015-certified pine-chemical manufacturer operating since 1971.
